LocalLab AI and Draw Things
Both make pictures from a description on your Mac, offline and private, and both are free on the App Store. Draw Things is a full AI image and video studio for iPhone, iPad and Mac; LocalLab AI keeps image making simple, as one of nine AI tools.
Choose Draw Things if
- Making images is your main interest, and you want control: LoRAs, ControlNet, inpainting and outpainting.
- You want many models — SDXL, FLUX.1, FLUX.2, Qwen Image and more — and to import community models.
- You want the same app on iPhone and iPad, or optional cloud compute.
Choose LocalLab AI if
- You want pictures without settings to learn: describe it, pick a size, and get it — and send it straight to Upscale.
- You also want chat, music, text to speech, transcription, upscaling, stem separation and text from scans in the same app.
- You want every tool and model graded for your Mac before you download it, on macOS 14 or later.

How they differ
Making images
Draw Things is the deeper tool for images: many models, the controls artists use, and models you bring yourself. LocalLab AI's Image runs FLUX.1 schnell — four steps, about a minute for a 1024 × 1024 picture on an M2 Max — with a description, a size and a seed, and tells you before it starts how much memory it needs and how long it will take.
Everything else
LocalLab AI's other tools sit beside it: a picture can go straight to Upscale, and the same app chats, makes songs, reads text aloud, transcribes, splits songs into stems and reads text from scans.
Questions
Do both work offline?
Yes. Both make images on your Mac without an internet connection once the model is downloaded.
Which should a beginner use?
LocalLab AI's Image has a description, a size and a seed, and nothing else to learn. Draw Things rewards the time you spend learning its controls.
Can I use both?
Yes — they're separate apps with their own model folders.
