Privacy policy

Effective 23 September 2026 · applies to LocalLab (listed on the Mac App Store as “LocalLab AI”) version 1.0 and later.

LocalLab runs AI models on your Mac. It is designed so that your data stays there.

What the developer collects

Nothing. LocalLab has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The developer runs no server that the app contacts, and receives no information about you or how you use the app.

What stays on your Mac

Everything you create or provide in LocalLab is stored only on your Mac:

• Conversations with chat models, and images you attach to them.
• What you give the tools — prompts, descriptions and lyrics, texts to read aloud, and the photos, videos, songs, recordings, scans and PDFs you choose or drop in.
• What the tools make, saved in a LocalLab folder inside your Pictures, Movies and Music folders.
• Recordings you make with the Record button, saved in Music › LocalLab › Recordings. The microphone is used only while you are recording, and only after you allow it.
• Models you download, in the library folder you choose.
• Measurements of your Mac — a short set of speed tests run on first launch, and the speed and memory use of the jobs you run — used only to choose settings for your Mac.
• Your settings.

None of this is uploaded anywhere. You can delete models and outputs in Settings › Storage, delete conversations in Chat, and remove everything else by deleting the app and the LocalLab folders it made.

What leaves your Mac

LocalLab connects to one service: Hugging Face (huggingface.co), where AI models are published. It does so only to:

• search for models when you use Browse, and
• download the files of a model you choose to install.

These requests go directly from your Mac to Hugging Face. Like any website, Hugging Face receives your IP address and the requests themselves — the search you typed, or the name of the model being downloaded. Their handling of that information is governed by Hugging Face’s privacy policy. The contents of your conversations, recordings, pictures, videos and results are never sent.

LocalLab doesn’t ask for a Hugging Face account. Should a future version let you add a Hugging Face access token (for models that require one), it will be kept in your Mac’s Keychain and sent only to Hugging Face, with requests for those models.

Export profile (in Tools & your Mac) writes a file describing your Mac’s chip, memory and measured speed, to a place you choose, for you to share by hand if you want to. It holds no names, paths, files or serial numbers, and LocalLab never sends it anywhere.

Models and their licences

Models are made by third parties and published on Hugging Face under their own licences, which LocalLab shows before you install a model. Models run entirely on your Mac; the developers of a model receive nothing from your use of it.

Children

LocalLab collects no information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If LocalLab ever changes what it sends or stores — for example, an optional way to share anonymous performance measurements to improve its estimates for other Macs — it will be off unless you turn it on, it will be explained in the app before it does anything, and this policy will be updated first. The effective date above shows the latest version.
